Seems mad to me that while doing my regular job of organising parties for the rich and the shameless some of my antics have been captured on celluloid for prosperity..and of course The Penthouses’ many floors and I was thinking of putting some of the things I have been in before I am next seen on Rob Brydon’s Christmas Special talking about Office Christmas parties and the high jinx they ensue.

http://bit.ly/cPYY5Y This was for the W Hotel – shot on our 7th floor of The Penthouse

- I know this is the height of vanity but please pay special attention to 00:27 and 12:09 : That’s my voice starting the film and yes that’s my better side…and a special thanks to yours truly at the end of the film…

In 2009, when nine of our famous friends spent eight days climbing Kilimanjaro, they raised over £3.5m to help tackle malaria and Lord Scott was proud to assist red Nose Day and Comic relief on the 6th floor of The Penthouse with this press Conference:

This was shot on our 6th floor at The Penthouse

Who is that at 48seconds -51seconds ? Is it a bird, is it a plane ? No, it is I and Mark Bushkes on the blue carpet at Charlie St. Cloud next time though, we have to walk slower..at this speed we are almost a blur

We organised a party for Zac Efrons last film , Orson Welles and me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-sj-kDkP

Just saw this at 1:53 seconds you can see me in the white flat cap and white suit with Jenny Murray at The Premier of Public Enemies with Johnny Depp as John Dillinger, Christian Bale as Special Agent and me as, well, me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc0bairzgew

Now if you don’t blink, you will see me, lord Jason Scott, meeting Dwayne “The Rock “ Johnson on the Red carpet that’s me on 2:16- 2:20 in the grey flat cap and blue checkered shirt , we have a chat and then I go off but the guy filming only has me for like 4 seconds and if you blink you WILL miss me, lol,.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPDSKsVXI8I

As most of you remember I organized an episode for Paris Hiltons TV show that was filmed here in London ( Paris Hiltons BBF for ITV) , well it seems you see me in a clip from the show ? That’s me with the red umbrella at 5:46 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWNZYk2mW

Then I was lucky enough to get to work with the brilliant presenter of The Gadget Show and Craig David. In the clip, Ortis meets up with British pop pin-up Craig David to test the latest console singing games. The days of singing into a hairbrush in front of a mirror are long gone, as Ortis pits his voice against Craig’s in a bid to find out which singing game is the best in our stunning Moet et Chandon suite on the 8th floor of The Penthouse London.

Who can perform such a miracle? Babe, in truth its soooo not me ! The Professor Henry Higgins who will turn your inner Eliza Doolittle into your outer Julie Andrews is the famous Dale Carnegie and his merry minions. “How to Communicate with Diplomacy and Tact” is the name of the Carnegie program that promises this transformation, and since they are so good at talking pretty, let me give you their pitch-perfect sales pitch:

“You’ll gain dexterity and grace in dealing with new or trying situations; recognize how you come across to others; speak honestly and confidently; become conscious of body language; master your emotions; give and receive criticism constructively; present yourself as powerful – not intimidating; and say what you need to say without offending or creating conflict. After completing this 2-day program you’ll be able to say anything to anybody in ways that influence outcomes and create cooperation.”

In other words, you’ll become the smooth-talking city-slicker you’ve always wanted to be. Still, if the idea of spending two days in any kind of training course gives you the hee bee jeee bee’s, better let me run through the curriculum. This is one course Dale Carnegie designed with inarticulate you in mind. Think The Kings Speech only with you and some “ Tom Cruise from Magnolia types” in the place of Geoffrey Rush.

1. Discover whether your image is sending the wrong message.
Let’s be honest here — the image you are sending is definitely fuzzy and out of focus. On the positive side, wearing your pajamas to the office does send a message that you are relaxed about the deadlines you face, and playing high volume House Funk music in your cube does tell the world you are up to date with the latest trends. On the negative side, your habits of softly moaning through the work day and breaking into heart-rending sobs at the drop of a pink slip may suggest a lack of confidence in management. Fortunately, this course will teach you how to march through your day standing tall and erect, broadcasting your abilities as if you really had any. Now that’s got to be worth £2000!

2. Use a tried and true method to disagree agreeably. Heaven knows you’ve appreciated the helpful candor when your boss calls you a stupid idiot, or suggests that your performance would not impress a dyslexic basset hound. But the abilities that make a super-manager go beyond clarity, and the Carnegie course promises to teach you how to “say what you need to say without offending or creating conflict.” I’m not sure how a stupid idiot like me can master these skills as well as I have, you jerk, but sign up anyway. It’s worth a try.

3. Control your hot buttons so you respond instead of react. You know how you fly off the handle when serious business problems occur, like when they run out of Krispy Kreme donuts before you get to the Monday staff meeting? This Carnegie course can teach you how to control your hot temper, so the only buttons you push are on the elevator to the top. In the example above, for example, the Carnegie course could teach you to react to this aggravating office situation appropriately by ripping away the last donut from the jaws of the nearest co-worker, an act of violence, true, but one that you will learn to smoothly excuse by confessing a eating disorder, which will also smoothly explain why you steal your co-workers’ tuna sandwiches from the office refrigerator too.

4. Maintain your composure when criticized. Responding well to criticism is an essential skill. With your work habits, criticism is one thing you’re going to get a lot of. Right now, you would respond to your boss criticizing your harmless habit of sneaking out the fire escape every day at 3 PM by throwing your computer against the wall, knocking down your bookcase, and ripping up the carpet in your cubical. After this Carnegie course, you’ll have the diplomatic skills to confidently and tactfully tell your boss that you appreciate her observational skills, and you know that she is only criticizing you because the company can’t survive without the help of a valuable employee like you.

Then you can throw your computer against the wall, knock down your bookcase, and rip up the carpet in your cubical. And don’t forget to beat the boss’s Jaguar into scrap metal with a sledgehammer. Now that’s diplomatic! Unless your Britney Spears…that is !

August 5th Papaya will host the launch of Miss Clubs in Croatia.
The search takes in leading night spots around the world allowing each partner’s target audience to shortlist candidates for the grand final where, in addition to the public vote for overall winner, each partner has the opportunity to select their ambassador.

Winners will be pushing the profile of brands and in return driving revenue for the Parachute Regiment Charity ensuring they can continue their fantastic work assisting the wounded and families of those killed in action. Calendars will also be sent to troops to lift their spirits and remind them of our support and thanks for the sacrifices they make on our behalf.

Launched by Sincura and myself, Miss Clubs has already garnered fantastic interest which has meant the competition is now offering over £50,000 worth of prizes from modelling contracts to holidays, to national press and TV exposure and most importantly raising awareness and funds for our partner charities.

Here is your chance to win an amazing price and one worthy or Royal mention :

Royal Ascot is the worlds famous horse racing event which started off in 1711,this event is also attended by the Royal family and other members of Royalty the world over. This event is a major sporting event for British people, many people from all over the world visit the famous Royal Ascot. Those that attend the Royal Ascot really do dress up in there best outfits, with so many press attending the event, you will sometimes feel like you are at a fashion show.

So lets talk clothes.

If you are lucky enough to be attending Royal Ascot this year, here are a few tips to ensure that your status as a Savvy Chap is recognised by those in the know, yet never overstated:

Black tailcoat in herringbone weave, all wool, light to medium weight, or vintage tailcoat in Barathea wool (slightly heavier, and useful as a standby in the event of chillier than expected conditions). Dark grey tailcoats are also becoming popular with discerning chaps.

Waistcoat in dove grey, buff, or canary yellow. Double-breasted waistcoats are especially favoured by ourselves, but you won’t go wrong if you adhere to the above rules on colours. Fancy, embroidered polyester waistcoats are the preserve of footballers’ weddings and Canadian snooker players.

Trousers in grey stripe (may be wool / poly mix for durability). If you’ve selected a vintage Barathea tailcoat, look for English-Cut (curved waistband, notch- back, high-rise, buttons for braces – which must accompany).

Plain white shirt with turn down collar (preferably a detachable collar). Ensure that the shirt sleeves are of sufficient length to leave 1/4 inch of cuff showing from under the tailcoat sleeve.

The tie is the one opportunity for expressing a little (discrete) individuality. We like diagonal stripes. A plain white pocket square may be worn. Wing collars with cravats have had a bad name in recent times, and will be considered by many as inappropriate for a Savvy Chap to wear to Ascot. The one exception is in the context of a very vintage ensemble, in which case the cravat must also be vintage – see photo below. Novelty ties, or anything in polyester, may result in immediate ejection from the course.

Highly polished shoes must be black, ideally plain Oxfords, no brogues or loafers.

Top Hat in black, ideally silk. Vintage silk toppers in larger sizes are highly prized, and priced. Polished fur felt is considered next best, wool felt is a good budget option.

And of course a watch, not any watch..but your best watch..for ASCOT there is but one, Longine.

Now if you don’t have one, here is your chance to Win a luxury watch and VIP experience at Royal Ascot!

In the year Ascot is celebrating its 300th anniversary, Swiss Watch brand Longines is proud to continue its role as the official timekeeper for Royal Ascot and co-sponsor the Royal Ascot fashion show for the fifth consecutive year.

This year, the Royal Meeting takes place from the 14th to 18th June, and Longines is set to celebrate the event with the launch of new models in the Column-Wheel collection. To mark this occasion, Longines is giving one lucky winner one of these elegant timepieces worth £2,040.

What’s more, the lucky reader will win an exclusive day for themselves a friend at Royal Ascot on Wednesday 15th June, with VIP treatment in the Bessborough Restaurant – home of the daily couture fashion show.

The package for you and a friend on Wednesday 15th June will consist of grandstand admission, a five-course luncheon with Piper Heidsieck Champagne reception, a complimentary bar and a full afternoon tea created by the Fairmont Trilogy Hotels, along with spectacular views of the world class racing on the track below.

For more information, go to www.longines.com or ascot.co.uk

Of course I will also have the opportunity to meet you, you will be photographed with myself and your stunning new fine timepiece by the official Longine photographer and enjoy a day out fit usually only for Royalty. Terms and conditions below :

It is a fact of life for most new sales people whether in events or insurance ; they get the dream sales job with unlimited earning potential and expect to earn so much money that they can now enjoy the fruits of their coming wealth. Everything seems perfect until they realize that before closing a sale and earning the big commission, they must first prospect for new customers (read, cold calls). Cold calling is hard to do. People hate to make cold calls and people hate being on the receiving end of them as well.

Prospecting is the most difficult part of the sales job. There are many ways to go about it but, for some reason, most managers preach cold calling as the only way for young sales people to generate leads. As someone who has been through it, I wish that these attitudes would change.

I recently read one of the best selling books on cold calling. In this book, the author stresses persistence. He uses the 15-3-1 rule. That is, you need to make fifteen cold calls to make three appointments with prospects. Out of these 3 appointments you will close one sale. By being persistent and making fifteen cold calls a day, this will translate to, on average, one sale a day, five sales a week, twenty sales a month, etc. Further, the author explains that he doesn’t mind the rejection that he gets when he cold calls. The reason is that since it takes fifteen calls to get an appointment, that means that he will hear the word “no” (rejection) fourteen times before he hears the word “yes.”

This is simplistic and anybody reading this book may get overexcited and think that this is easy. It’s not easy and the author’s arguments don’t hold up in real life selling.
Take the fifteen cold calls a day rule. Anybody reading this book will think that fifteen cold calls a day is nothing. If it takes 2-3 minutes to make a phone call, it shouldn’t take more than 45 minutes to make your mandatory 15 calls. Then the rest of the day is spent selling in front of prospects.

But it doesn’t work this way. If you’ve ever cold called, you will know that it usually takes at least 10 phone calls to reach a decision maker. Think about it, executives aren’t sitting in their offices waiting for your call. They’re either on the phone, in meetings, on vacation, or they just don’t want to talk to you. So now, to talk to fifteen people, you need to make 150 cold calls. This is not 45 minutes of work; this can take days.

Further, for someone to say that he enjoys hearing the word “no” because it means he is getting closer to a “yes” is just misleading. Although a select few people can take this kind of rejection day in and day out, most cannot. It is only human nature to be discouraged by so much rejection.

There are better ways to get sales leads and increase your sales. People buy from people that they trust. Your time should be spent networking with your friends, colleagues, and business contacts. Get referrals, get introductions, get testimonials and the sales will come. Not only that, your job will be better; nobody likes the rejection and time consuming nature of cold calling.

Here are a few suggestions to help increase your list of contacts.

Instructions :

1
Buy or rent a list of potential sales leads from a company specializing in obtaining, cleaning and selling lists. Like many industries, list companies have merged and grown in size to where there are a few major players and a lot of minor ones. Call some of the larger ones and get prices. Buying only email addresses is the most popular and cheapest way to go. Once your Internet ad is developed, the price of both sending the email or having it rejected is free or minimal if you have a specialist do the email blast for you.

2
Collect business cards at an organization or chamber of commerce meeting. The best salespeople in the largest companies still consider every card a potential sales lead.

3
Jot down the names of potential leads as you read your daily newspaper or magazines. You can tell from the ad what the business specializes in and whether or not they might be a good lead.

4
Browse through Internet Web sites when you have a little time to spare. Do searches for companies that may have an interest in your product or service and review their Web sites. You may find not only valuable leads but also valuable information that could increase your success rate. Look at the best in the field and see what they do :

Top 10 event planners in the world : http://uk.askmen.com/fine_living/top_10/10_top_10.html

Preston Bailey, who is one of my mentors say’s:

Every single guest in any event you do is a potential client. It’s strictly up to you to show them something or give them an experience they’ll never forget. There is one tool I have used for many years, and it’s proven to be extremely effective in getting clients. I call it creating a DRAMATIC STATEMENT. Even if you do not have a large budget, if you invest most of it in this statement, it is the one thing a potential client will remember and most likely call you about when they are entertaining.

*******
Every single inquiry is different. That does not mean you should not have a clear protocol for how to handle that initial call or email.
Here are some suggestions from me to you:
1. Make sure there is always someone (especially you) answering your phone at least 10 hours a day. You do not want that original call to go to a voice mail. A lot of new clients simply hang up and call the next vendor who actually answers.
2. When you answer in a very pleasant voice, you should always sound like you have all the time in the world. No new client wants the impression you are just fitting them in.
3. Getting information is essential in this first call. You could have a questionnaire form you ask in a very conversational tone. For example: name, email, address, type of event, number of guess, location etc.
4. If possible, do not discuss money in this original call. It is best to do that in person. However, if the potential client brings this up, make sure you are prepared to offer your rates.
5. Try to establish a personal connection over the phone in this first call. In my experience, most potential clients are more than eager to talk about their events with excitement. Encourage them.
6. Very gently ask them how they found out about you. If someone recommended you, it is always good to send them a thank you note or email.
7. Make sure you find out the client’s likes and dislikes. This helps you prepare to make a better make sale by showing them only what they like.
8. The most important step in that first contact is to make sure you set up a face to face meeting with the potential client. This is important, because in these meetings you are going to charm them into getting the job. In that face to face meeting, make sure you have lots of samples of your work and services to show them.
9. Send the potential client a thank you note or email telling them how much you enjoyed meeting them, and that you are very excited about the project.
10. Be honest with your potential client by saying something along the lines of, “I’d love the opportunity to have you as my client. I know I can do a great job.”

*********
.

Clients are folks like us. In order for them to pay for something, they need to first want it and second understand what they are paying for. It’s your job to make this happen. I rely heavily on visual sales. If they can see it, they will pay for it more readily.
6. Analyze each and every job from a financial point of view. What could you have done for less time or money? This is the only way to improve your profit. Gather all the players and discuss a better way.

Back to me :

5
Ask family, friends and relatives for leads. Ask your neighbour and ask your golfing buddies. Ask the person next to you on your next flight. Leads dissipate over time, and you need to be constantly filling up your pipeline.

6
Establish a business relationship with another person to gather leads for you in exchange for some sort of monetary return, usually by sales lead or by a percentage of sales.

7.
Sales Leads via Word of mouth
If you want to get the marketplace talking about you to their friends, give them something to talk about!
The golden rule of generating leads via word of mouth, is that you need to be remarkable if you want people to remark on you! I also use Twitter, Facebook ,Blogs , Facebook -Fanpage, Youtube, Media, papers, competitions, campaigns.
Sales Leads via Email marketing
This is easily one of the most powerful forms of lead generation I have ever used. For very little cost, a professionally copy written email marketing campaign can generate a steady supply of high quality, targeted sales leads for your business. Don’t do like most small business owners and CC everyone, write personal emails and where possible write a personal statement about them in the opening paragraph,
Sales leads via Twitter
I have personally generated well over £100,000 for my business, directly via leads I attracted via Twitter
Sadly, I have met just a tiny number of people, who use Twitter correctly, as a form of lead / business generation.
Here’s a tip: Be selective and don’t just follow every person and every “trend” you see!
Sales Leads via Tele Marketing
Whilst I do not recommend you try this yourself, you might want to consider using a professional telemarketing company as a source of lead generation. This works better in some industries and countries, than others; so look before you leap. Check out ANY telemarketing company before you consider using them and ask for references.
Sales Leads via Networking
I choose to do most of my networking online these days, but force myself to go to 3 networking events a month minimum, however the key is to network with the right kind of people.
Form associations with people, who either have a need for your services or access to people, with a need for your services. Let them know what you do and the kind of people you work with, so they know who to recommend you to.
This will greatly increase the volume and quality of leads you get. Our industry has many but perhaps none as popular as ISES UK which is part of a 6000 strong global membership network for the special events industry.
Sales Leads via Mail shots
Mail shots, (sometimes called direct marketing) has become an increasingly powerful way to generate leads. With more and more marketing moving online, a hand signed letter from a fellow businessperson these days REALLY catches the reader’s attention. We don’t do a lot of this although in 2008 I personally licked and stamped and send 400 envelopes to get business for Christmas.
Sales Leads via your Website or blog
Bottom line: Your site should be a lead generating machine for your business.
Every day, people read that message and click a link. This helps produce leads for my business 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Get your site’s SEO right and get it professionally copy written, so people feel compelled to click YOUR links and get in touch. What’s wrong with our site and what can we do better do you think ?
Also, make it easy for people to contact you. Publish your phone number and email address. If you use a contact form, just ask for their name, email address and message. You don’t need anything else to begin with and every extra piece of info you ask for, massively LOWERS your conversion rates!
Sales Leads via Joint Ventures and Endorsed Relationships
Sales Leads via Newsletters
As Keeley, my brilliant event planner once mentioned, Newsletters are a great way to generate leads. I have found that a well written newsletter, which resonates with your audience, is a very effective way to position yourself as the person with the answers, to their problems. Then, when they decide to get professional help with their problem, you are already the natural choice.
Just make sure you are approachable and that you let your readers know that you are happy to speak with them. Tell them that they are under no obligation by contacting you and that you will treat their email or call in total confidence.
Sales Leads via Advertising
The right message, placed in the correct advertising vehicle, can produce fast, measurable results. The reason so many small business owners claim advertising doesn’t work, is that they use amateur copy and put it in the wrong place. I assure you, advertising works! However, an uninspiring message sent to the wrong people, at the wrong time, doesn’t work (how could it?) If you are thinking of advertising and you have tried before and found it didn’t work, either get a professional in – or leave it! You can waste a lot of money with ineffective advertising.
Obviously, there are far, far too many proven ways to generate leads, than can be covered in a blog post. However, I hope those above have got you thinking about investing in some new, lead generating activities. We have used advertising but it hasn’t worked for us, maybe we just need to look elsewhere, any ideas ?

Hello and welcome to my most fragrant blog of the year – coming to you during the time-honored Chelsea Flower Show here in London, England (usually followed by the time-honored summer hosepipe ban, of course). Now we haven’t got rare orchids, or some gardening character swanning around in green wellies, but what we do have are a few practical ideas for cultivating your event from ordinary to Extraordinary. My theme for this blog is gaining maximum satisfaction for a minimum amount of work in a private performance , so stand by for a shedload of information on this private gig and how it ended with me come up smelling of roses

The event was Lord Jason Scott Presents Christopher Cross in conjunction with Smooth Radio UK.

——————
Things to know when organizing a concert :

Finding the right artist – this is probably the most important part of this process.

Catering to the needs of the artist (before, on the day of and during the concert) the “ rider”.

Estimating the size of the audience .

Venue, Sound and Light Arrangements.

Sponsorship - I find this helps with number 6. Publicity and with return on investment. Try and remember that sponsorship can “make or break” your event. You can get sponsors to sponsor for goody bags, add to your program/brochure or sponsor food and drink, where most of your revenue will be coming from. Or on the rare occasion such as this sponsor the entire event.

Publicity (Designing and printing posters, flyers, ads, banners and choosing the right locations to distribute / place the same and creating web sites) unless you can get a media partner.

Ticketing (printing tickets and sale of tickets before the event date, and box office on the day) again I always look at a company to partner with who specializes in this.

Making a Brochure/Program (Getting the content ready, and handling the technical aspect of making a brochure)- speak to a brochure making company if you have the budget.

Identifying the MC for the concert

Stage decorations

Ushering people

Food Arrangements

Sale of Merchandise : Never forget the words of the wise yoghurt from SPACEBALLS “ merchandising, merchandising, merchandising ! Where the real money is made!” Merchandise is yet another great revenue stream. Never underestimate the power it has on your ROI and always display your merchandise well, so as to attract the most amount of attention.

The Venue: Decide on a venue which can accommodate your expected audience. Too big an auditorium might leave empty areas giving an appearance of poor turnout and also make ushering very difficult. Choose the right size and make sure that there will be sufficient technical help from the venue.

Now lets go through my event and see some of the above in action J

The Artist : While it is important to treat the artist with utmost respect and offer him/her the best hospitality and convenience, you should not lose sight of the cause and your budget. Make sure you offer the artist only what you can afford ( what is in the budget) and communicate the same. Try to get a list of what the artist absolutely needs (including, in the green room, this is often called a “rider”) and work at meeting all those needs, else explain to the artist well in advance about any changes. Make sure the artist has enough time to do a sound check before the concert begins. Have one person dedicated to stay with the artist and taking care of all travel arrangements. Most artists have a manager and this is who I find has all the answers and is always my point of call.

The Master of ceremonies : When choosing a MC, make sure it is someone who has done public speaking before and is someone who is flexible to guide the day’s event according to unexpected situations. Let the MC meet with the artist before the concert to make sure that the artist is also comfortable with the proceedings for the day. I find its best to use someone as well known as the artist and someone in the same genre. No point having

Details :

Date: Friday 13th May 2011
Arrived between 5:30 -6pm
Concert started at 6:30 – 9pm
Venue : the 6th floor -The Penthouse, London
No.1 Leicester Square
WC2H7NA

Artist:

Christopher Cross : In his career so far, Cross has won five Grammys and an Oscar for song Arthur’s Theme, which won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1981. A huge star in the 80’s, Christopher Cross virtually defined adult contemporary radio with a series of sophisticated ballads including the Number One hit, Sailing.

Venue: The Penthouse I was proud to co-host the Christopher Cross gig on our 6th floor as it was a small and intimate area where I could create an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. It was filled with ‘Smoothies’ ( listeners of Smooth Radio), all of which had entered the online competition in the hope of one of these prized tickets. As ever the ‘Smoothies’ eagerly chatted amongst themselves like old friends meeting up for a jolly while I took care of the green room and the artists needs.

The 8th floor Moet et Chandon suite (the green room) was laid out in fresh fruit, all organic peanut butter sandwiches and an array of sweets ( nothing outlandish, like he would only eat the white M&M’s however) were laid out on the bar and the soft sounds of mating whales from Iceland was played in the background and Christopher Cross and his band discussed the playlist and the tour so far.

MC: Then on the 6th floor came the larger than life Lynn Parsons ( well known radio personality in the UK) who, with an excited smile across her face and a giggle in her voice, made the introductions and invited Christopher Cross to the stage for a Q&A session.

I immediately got the call on the radio and ushered him into the VIP elevator with his fantastic manager Anja and 2 beefy security guards. Lucky I have been on this diet otherwise we would never have all fitted in. As I got out and prepared the room for his arrival, the audience of 250 began to clap and cheer.

The gig began with a light Q&A and there he was answering questions, like the seasoned pro that he is, and he had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand by the end. Chris was relaxed, witty and so funny; it was like being in the pub with a good friend listening to him regaling stories from the past. The time just flew by and then he was joined by his musicians on keyboard and on the sax/clarinet and straight into Hey Kid from the Dr Faith album.
You would think that after 30 years the voice wouldn’t be the same and maybe wouldn’t quite hit the high notes. Well, let me tell you, his voice was like honey; smooth and silky. It never faltered; this was unplugged -no mixes, no machines. It was pure and magical; by the time he got to I’mToo Old For This everyone was hooked, line and sinker and singing along with the chorus.

Arthur’s Theme needed no introduction; the audience was right behind him and loving every minute, Open Up My Window, a duet with keyboardist Kiki Ebsen, whose harmonies just melted together with Mr. Cross’.

Then it was the classic Sailing; my stomach flipped and felt hugely emotional and looking around the crowd I was not the only one, what a tearjerker, you could see people filling up. I could see Lynn Parsons’ face crumpling and wiping away a tear. That kind of says it all when a performer can affect the audience in such an emotional way; I felt he was singing that song just for me. However, so did everyone else because the audience went crazy after that.
Before we knew it, he had performed three more tracks from the new album, including When You Come Home, which felt like he was singing from his heart.

Then he was on his feet, thanking us for coming along, wow it was pure pleasure.

Thank you Smooth Radio and Mr. Cross!
We all stood and clapped for him and his amazing musicians and then as a real treat he then whipped us up into a frenzy with Ride Like The Wind. What a way to end a most amazing show, could it get any better than this?

Well, yes it could!

Merchandising : Christopher Cross then went upstairs for a short 10minute break and to get his composure then with the words, “ lets get back to the fans” was rushed back down to the 6trh floor to ( sell albums. T-shirts, postcards and hats) sign his merchandise and chatted away to everyone who attended, not once rushing and making everyone feel like he had personally invited them along to this most private gig.

Thank you Christopher Cross and thank you Smooth Radio for choosing me and The Penthouse London.

What a week, what with the Royal wedding ( another story, another time) and to organise a fully fledged full blown Premier after party in less then 3 days I was in for a big week.

The film, was Attack the Block ( more about this film here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1478964/ ) .

My thoughts on the film, it is directed by Joe Cornish. Starring Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker, Luke Treadaway. The twist with Attack the Block is the comedy element which, if you’re a fan of Joe Cornish, you’ll know comes completely naturally to him. Every scene is well shot, well directed, well acted and throughout every line of dialogue you’re waiting for one of the newbie actors to deliver a line that is going to make you laugh and the audience if kept laughing from start to finish with the fantastically delivered lines and comedy timing.

I called it, “ Critters versus Goonies in Hoodies “.

But enough about the film, lets look at the event, step for step :

The Event: Attack The Block movie premiere

The Venue: The Penthouse London , in the heart of London on the most famous square in the world of cinema.

People : 400

Plus

A celebrity DJ and a

7 piece Band and sound desk.

12 members of security .

Some of the VIPs: Jonathan Ross and Jane Goldman, Anthony Head ( Buffy fame), Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, Rick Edwards, Edith Bowman, Jodie Whittaker, Edgar Wright, Mark Strong and John Boyega to name just those I danced with, lol.

1 x production crew to get the props –

1 x aqua floral arrangement ( the brief was Sci-fi)

Drinks :

Cuba Libre ( absolute Vodka mixed with fresh pineapple juice and a generous splash of blackcurrant liqueur) and Bramble ( Beefeater Gin mixed with lemon juice, sugar and laced with Chambord) for beer I find Heineken to be a popular choice then a lovely South African Wine- Kleine Zalze Chenin Blanc for the white and for Red Wine we offered a wonderful Castelbello.

For Food we had our Master Chef Brian O’Sullivan create and serve the following:

Lamb Koftas with Tzatiki (200 portions)

Vegetable spring rolls swerved on miniature dragon boats

Duck spring rolls

Sausages with a grain mustard and honey glaze (200 portions)

Mini pizzas- Meat and margarita

Individual Chips served in sailboat baskets

Mini brownies served with strawberries

Smoked salmon an Avocado on rye bread

The biggest challenge of any premier after party is the fact that they all leave the cinema at the same time and then like wild buffalo all come charging at you.

So step 1 was to get them to slow down , the trick is to distract them and like a bull with a cloakroom while serving drinks to the queue that are waiting to either drop off there coats or get into the elevator.

Step 2 was to move them around the room, this is easily done with food stations or in this case drink stations. We created various areas for different drink so the beer groups would migrate to one area and the cocktail crowd to another.

Step 3 was to make everyone feel like a star, while showing the true stars of the film that they are my number one priority.

Attack the Block is out on the 11th of May in the UK, check local listings for more details, and for those who are aware of the extraordinary buzz about the film I have a few words:

Believe the hype.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc-Q244MEAI&feature=player_embedded

And what did the critics say about my event, we went to the who’s who of the Twitterati to find out:

Edgar Wright, Director: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz. … Scott Pilgrim vs. the World tweeted :

Edgar Wright, “Not only was the @AttackTheBlock premiere great, but that was the best after party I’ve been to: the whole cast onstage rhyming & dancing.”

Mr. Ultra Culture , The UK’s greatest Movie Blog tweeted ( to be read in reverse)

ultraculture Ultra Culture

Jonathan Ross and Lord Jason Scott
